Ocean acidification mesocosms

Ocean Acidification mesocosmsWithin a temperature controlled room, the CMBB has a purpose built ocean acidification facility. There are twenty mesocosms, within which the temperature and CO2 level can be carefully controlled. CO2 is mixed with CO2-free air to a pre-determined concentration. Currently our animals are being exposed to CO2 levels of 390 ppm (present day), 750 and 1000 ppm (end of the century projections), with the possibility of a wider range of CO2 concentrations.

Each system has its own filter unit and protein skimmer to maintin water quality, as well as a recirculating feeding system.
