Marine Science and Technology: Malaysia 2015

Twenty UK delegates will be travelling to Malaysia to meet up with twenty Malaysian delegates for a British Council funded Early Career Researcher Workshop.

This workshop entitled "Marine Science and Technology: Promoting UK-Malaysian interdisciplinary research collaboration and career opportunities" is taking place between 8th and 13th March based at the Universiti Malaysia Terengganu which is Malaysia's HE Centre of Excellence in Marine Science.

Three of the twenty UK participants are from Heriot-Watt University (CMBB's Dr Kate Gormley and Dr Fiona Murray; and ICIT's Andrew Want) and a further seven from MASTS institutions (Edinburgh Napier, Stirling, UHI_SAMS, UHI-ERI and Marine Scotland Science).  HWUs Prof. Hamish Mair and Dr Joanne Porter are the joint UK co-ordinators along with Dr Anthony Jensen from University of Southampton.

Malaysia 2 small    

As well as the opportunity to experience the range of marine research activities ongoing in Malaysia, the main aim is to promote new international collaborations between UK and Malaysian institutions/researchers with a view to taking advantage of the opportunities provided by the 'Newton-Ungku Omar' funding programme over the next few years.

Delegates will also have the opportunitiy to visit the Redang Island Marine Park, visiting Ulu Redang Mangrove, Chagar Hutang Sea Turtle Sanctuary, Redang Forest Reserve, Redang Coral Reefs and Ulu Redang Village.
